Short version: I run a blog, not a data business. I do not sell your information, and I collect as little of it as I can get away with while still knowing which posts are worth writing more of.
This page explains the long version. If anything here is unclear, write to tattoistic@gmail.com and ask.
Who is behind this site
Tattoistic is published at tattoistic.com by an individual, not a company with a legal department. For anything on this page, that individual is the person responsible for your information, and the way to reach them is tattoistic@gmail.com.
What gets collected without you doing anything
Every website records some technical information the moment a page loads. Here it is limited to:
The internet address your device is connecting from, which browser and operating system you are using, the rough size of your screen, which page you landed on, which page you came from, and how long you stayed.
None of that tells me who you are. It tells me that someone on a phone in Ohio read a post about chrome nails and then left, which is genuinely all I need in order to decide what to write next.
What gets collected because you handed it over
There are only three places on this site where you can give me anything.
The contact form. Your name, your email address, a subject line if you filled one in, and whatever you typed in the message box. It arrives in an inbox. It stays there.
Comments, if they are switched on. Your name, your email address, your comment, and the internet address you posted from. Your name and comment are public. Your email address is not shown to anyone.
The newsletter, if one is running. Your email address, and the record of whether you opened anything.
Nothing on this site requires an account, and nothing asks for a phone number, an address or a payment card.
Why any of it is kept
To send you a reply. To send you the emails you asked for. To keep spam out of the comments. To see which posts people actually read. To keep the site working and to deal with anything that goes wrong.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area and want the formal wording: replying to you and running the newsletter rest on your consent, which you can pull back at any time. Keeping the site secure and understanding what gets read rest on legitimate interests. Where the law requires a record to be kept, that is a legal obligation.
Who else touches it
I do not sell your information, I do not trade it, and I do not hand it to anybody for their own marketing. A short list of companies do see some of it, because the site cannot run otherwise:
The hosting company stores every file and every database entry, which is what hosting means. The analytics provider processes the technical information described above. The email provider handles the newsletter list, if there is one. Social platforms see a request from your browser when a post embeds one of their videos or pin widgets, whether or not you click it. If advertising is running on the site, the ad network sets its own cookies and follows its own privacy policy, not this one.
Each of those companies has its own privacy policy governing what they do. I have chosen them, but I do not control them.
Where in the world it goes
The companies above are mostly based in the United States, so if you are reading this from elsewhere your information crosses a border to get to them. Where the law requires a safeguard for that transfer, the providers rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent approved mechanism.
How long it stays
Contact form messages are kept while the conversation is useful and deleted when it is not. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments stay for as long as the post does, unless you ask for yours to go. Analytics records expire on the provider’s own schedule, which is measured in months rather than years.
What you can make me do
Wherever you live, you can email tattoistic@gmail.com and ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, or delete it. I will do it. You do not need to give a reason and you do not need to quote a law at me.
If you are in the UK or the EEA, you additionally have the right to receive your information in a portable format, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to ask that processing be restricted, and to complain to your national data protection authority.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what is collected and why, to have it deleted, to have it corrected, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. There is nothing to opt out of, because none of it is sold or shared for cross context advertising. Exercising any of these rights will never get you a worse experience on this site.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and I do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent something through the contact form, email tattoistic@gmail.com and it will be deleted.
Separately, and more importantly for a site like this one: tattoos and piercings have legal minimum ages that vary by state and country, and nothing published here is an invitation for a minor to get one.
Cookies
Cookies get their own page. See the Cookie Policy.
Keeping it safe
The site runs over an encrypted connection, access to the admin area is restricted, and software is kept current. That is a reasonable standard and it is not a guarantee. No website can promise that nothing will ever go wrong, and anyone who does is lying to you.
When this page changes
If the way information is handled changes, this page changes with it, and the last updated date at the top moves. Substantial changes will be flagged on the site rather than slipped in quietly.
Asking anything
Write to tattoistic@gmail.com. A real person reads it.
